Department of Public Works - Highway Division

Responsibilities

The Town of Mansfield Highway Division’s focus is on the Maintenance and Repair of about 127 road miles throughout Town as wells as Parks, Cemeteries and Commons and Sewer Collection.  With this comes a responsibility that covers a wide range of duties for the 14 man crew:

  • Emptying of Trash Barrels (96) Town Wide Two Times Weekly
  • Drainage (Catch Basin Clean-Up)
  • Fleet Maintenance - Town Wide
  • Groundskeeping (Parks – Commons – Cemeteries)
  • Irrigation (Parks – Commons)
  • Potholes
  • Road Preservation
  • Sewer Back Ups
  • Signage
  • Snow and Ice Removal 
  • Storm Debris Clean Up
  • Street Sweeping
  • Tree Maintenance
  • 24-hour coverage for emergencies, such as accident cleanup and removal of animals in the roadway 
  • 27 acres of athletic fields (Hutchins Field, Memorial Park and Plymouth Street) 

The 3 man crew in the Division’s Vehicle Maintenance Department is dedicated to maintaining the majority of the Town’s vehicles and equipment.
