SINGLE STREAM

AUTOMATED RECYCLING

Beginning July 21, 2008, the Town of Mansfield will begin a curbside single stream recycling program. The town has selected to implement this program along with Waste Management in order to make recycling easier for Mansfield residents.

 WHAT IS SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING?

Recycling will be made easier and more efficient for all residents. You no longer have to spend time sorting your recyclable materials into separate bins. Now all recyclable items can be placed in the same container for easy curbside collection. Single stream materials are sorted at a special facility and then recycled in their individual streams, simply stated…they do all the sorting.  Similar to your current solid waste carts, this system will help to improve the appearance of neighborhoods, while keeping recyclables, contained and covered. No more newspapers blowing away. And no more carrying multiple bins curbside.

HOW WILL THIS CHANGE THE WAY I RECYCLE?

Waste Management will provide you with a 64 Gallon container similar to you current trash container. This container will have a distinctive yellow cover and will be labeled for recycling only.  Resident may also request a 96-gallon container upon special request.  You may continue to save the same recyclable materials as you do now, however NO SORTING IS NEEDED! Simply place all the materials in the new container. Place your recycling cart curbside on your normal recycling day…. IT’S THAT EASY!!

YOU CAN CONTINUE TO RECYCLE ALL MATERIALS PREVIOUSLY COLLECTED IN TWO STREAMS:

• Plastic Bottles • Glass Bottles and Jars

• Aluminum and Tin Cans • Cardboard boxes

• White and Colored Paper • Newspapers and Magazines

• Junk Mail

ALL IN THE SAME CART!

Materials should still be prepared in the same fashion, lids removed and containers rinsed out. Break down cardboard into pieces so that it will not become lodged in the cart while dumping. By crushing your plastic and tin containers and flattening paper and cardboard boxes you will be able to maximize the volume of your recycling cart. Along with inspections by our drivers in order to prevent solid waste from entering the recycling stream, we ask that you please remember to use your new yellow top container for recycling only. This will not only prevent the contamination of recyclables but will help to maximize recycling efforts.

WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY NEW RECYCLING CONTAINER?

Beginning the week of the July 14th, your second cart (yellow top) will be delivered on or about your normal collection day. Collection will begin on your normal collection day beginning the week of July 21st.

USE AND CARE OF YOUR NEW RECYCLING CONTAINER

Your new cart is made of the same durable materials as your solid waste container and will give you years of maintenance free use. You may contact Waste Management in the effort of any problems such as a broken lid or wheel. Merely place the cart curbside by 7:00 am, arrows facing the street, in the same manner as your solid waste container. Please allow 3 feet between the containers and avoid obstructions such as trees, lampposts and low hanging wires etc.  Each Cart will be assigned to a single residence and will remain the property of the contractor. Please do not remove the cart when you move. Residents will be responsible to pay for a replacement due to negligence.

SAME AS  YOUR TRASH CART, MATERIALS OUTSIDE OF THE CART WILL NO BE COLLECTED.
